Minutes, Feb. 2011 Meeting
February, 2011 Minutes
Whew. The February Exhibit, A Celebration of Creativity, was a glorious success. Thanks to all who submitted work, wo/manned the Gallery during drop off and pick up, decorated the window, fixed food for the receptions and helped with PR post cards and posters and anything I’m forgetting. I hope you saw the articles by Chris Barber and Nancy Johnson in the Avon Grove Sun and Chester County Press, respectively.
Congratulations to Larry Denver, Third Place winner and to Blanche Stirrat and Cheryl Gross for their red-sticker success.
We’re taking the month of March off. So our next meeting will be Wed. April 13 at 9 a.m. at the Gallery.
I know a lot of you have joined the day time workforce since our first Connection meeting and we miss you. Let me know if an evening meeting would better serve you. We can alternate a.m. and p.m.
At our last meeting Cheryl Gross discussed the Alliance Decorator Show House, a major fundraiser that will take place in May. Cheryl is in charge of the gift shop, which will be called Best of Oxford. Items are to be priced under $120 with 20% of sales going to the Alliance. You will be hearing more from Cheryl in March.
Jihan has offered us the space next to the Gallery for a second annual Connection Gift Shop next Nov. and Dec. Stacey Petersen has offered to coordinate this project.
Dave Bliss has secured wall space at the Oxford Farmers/Amish Market on Rt 10. He is coordinating this opportunity with the Amish couple Barb and Amos King, who ask 20% sales commission. If you are interested in displaying your art, stop by and scope out the space, talk to Dave and say hey to Barb and Amos. They make neat little baskets to hold business cards. $6.
Not sure which month we have for our summer Members Exhibition — July or August — but I do know we need someone to volunteer to coordinate it. Please let me know if you are interested/able.
FYI: The Octoraro Art Association will host Open Studios on Wed. afternoons from 12:30 to 2:30. There is no charge for these painting/artist gatherings. Bring your own supplies.
Next Meeting: Wed. April 13, 9 a.m. in the Gallery.

Hospice Christmas Art @ the Gallery
Call for artists: On Thursday December 2 from 9-12 a Hospice coordinator is bringing lots of different projects for us to create: cards, bookmarks and gift bags.
Can you join us for the morning as we make Christmas cheer for Hospice patients and their families? Please stop by for part or all of this gathering.
Call for Artist Trading Cards
The Oxford Arts Alliance’s 8 foot Christmas Tree is up, and we’d love your creativity to decorate it in an artsy, festive style. What better way than to adorn it with Artist Trading Cards, those miniature works of art created on cards only 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. If you have one (or more) cards you’d be willing to hang on the tree, please bring it into the gallery. We’ll have a hole punch and hooks. Paula Graham will be at the Gallery for First Friday Dec. 3 from 5-8 hostessing our Creation Station where everyone can sit for a spell and create a Gallery Tree ATC. Sign up to be invited to a trading party later in December.

Connection Gift Shop at 38-A
The Artist Co-op of the Oxford Artist Connection opened its Holiday Gift Shop at 38-A South Third Street, Oxford PA in time for November’s First Friday Art Stroll. You’ve heard the expression It Takes a Village. . . It truly took a cooperative to get the space transformed, decorated and stocked. And we did it in less than one week.
Laurie and Dave paint the walls.
